Yerevan, Armenia – A new nationwide poll conducted in Armenia by the International Republican Institute’s (IRI) Center for Insights in Survey Research (CISR) found that majorities support joining the European Union (EU) and striking a peace deal with Azerbaijan.

When asked how they would vote in a referendum on EU membership, 58% said they would vote to join the European alliance.

“This poll shows that most Armenians see their prospects for a bright future with Europe,” said Stephen Nix, Senior Director for Eurasia at IRI. Moreover, the people of Armenia understand that moving further away from Russia and towards the West is important to enhancing peace and prosperity.”

The survey also found that 56% of Armenians strongly support or somewhat support a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.  The two countries have been engaged in an ethnic and territorial conflict for decades where thousands of civilians have been displaced.

“A clear majority of Armenians would like to see their government engaged in negotiations with Azeri authorities for the purposes of reaching a lasting peace deal,” said Nix.

Երևան, Հայաստան –Միջազգային Հանրապետական Ինստիտուտի (IRI) Հարցումների հետազոտությունների կենտրոնի (CISR) կողմից Հայաստանում անցկացված նոր համապետական հարցումն արձանագրում է, որ մեծամասնությունը աջակցում է Եվրամիությանը (ԵՄ) անդամակցելուն և Ադրբեջանի հետ խաղաղության պայմանագրի կնքմանը:

Հարցին, թե ինչպես կքվեարկեին ԵՄ անդամակցության հանրաքվեի դեպքում, 58%-ը նշել է, որ կքվեարկեր հօգուտ միանալու:

«Այս հարցումը ցույց է տալիս, որ հայաստանցիների մեծ մասը իրենց պայծառ ապագան տեսնում են Եվրոպայի հետ»,- ասել է ՄՀԻ-ի՝ Եվրասիայի գծով ավագ տնօրեն Սթիվեն Նիքսը: «Ավելին, Հայաստանի բնակչությունը հասկանում է, որ Ռուսաստանից ավելի հեռանալը և դեպի Արևմուտք շարժվելը կարևոր է խաղաղության և բարեկեցության բարելավման համար»:

Հարցումը նաև ցույց է տվել, որ հարցվածների 56%-ը լիովին կամ որոշ չափով աջակցում է Ադրբեջանի հետ խաղաղության պայմանագրին: Երկու երկրներն արդեն տասնամյակներ շարունակ ներգրավված են էթնիկ և տարածքային հակամարտությունում, որի արդյունքում հազարավոր խաղաղ բնակիչներ տեղահանվել են:

«Հայաստանի քաղաքացիների մեծամասնությունը ցանկանում է, որ իրենց կառավարությունը ներգրավվի ադրբեջանական իշխանությունների հետ բանակցությունների մեջ՝ վերջնական խաղաղության պայմանագիր կնքելու նպատակով», – ասել է Նիքսը:

Methodology 

The survey was conducted on behalf of the International Republican Institute’s Center for Insights in Survey Research by Breavis.  Data was collected via telephone (CATI) administered interviews throughout Armenia between September 13 and 25, 2024. ​ The sample consisted of 1,503 citizens of Armenia and forcibly displaced former residents of Nagorno Karabakh who are now residing in Armenia (who may or may not be citizens) 18 and older. The achieved sample was weighted for age, gender, regions, and urbanacity according to the 2023 Yearbook of the Statistical Committee of Armenia, as well as to the midpoint between the 2022 census data (for those aged 18+) and the achieved sample’s education level. The margin of error does not exceed plus or minus 2.5 percentage points for the full sample. The response rate was 19%.
