IRI Condemns Execution of Iranian Political Prisoner

Washington, DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) issued the following statement after the regime in Iran executed the first known prisoner arrested in the nationwide protests:

“The International Republican Institute strongly condemns the execution of political prisoners in Iran.  This brutal action is meant to shake the foundation of a movement that desires freedom over tyranny. Such evil will only strengthen the resolve of the very people the regime is trying to intimidate. The duty of a government is to serve, protect, and answer to citizens, not to violently suppress their most basic rights. IRI firmly stands with Iranian protestors and their quest for a democratic future.”
