Washington, DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) issued the following statement on the death of longtime partner, Serhiy Ikonnikov:
“The International Republican Institute mourns the loss of Serhiy Ikonnikov, who died fighting in Ukraine for his country’s freedom. Serhiy worked with IRI as member of the European Democracy Youth Network’s (EDYN) Ukraine chapter, an organization dedicated to the advancement of a Europe whole, free, and at peace. At the start of the war Serhiy defended his native Kyiv with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and continued to serve honorably until he was killed in action.
