IRI Statement on Russia’s War on Ukraine

“The Ukrainian people will not be bowed; they will not be broken; and they will rebuild a stronger, more prosperous Ukraine after Russia’s defeat.”

Washington, DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) released the following statement on Russia’s war on Ukraine:

“One year after launching his illegal war, Vladimir Putin has made clear that he will not stop until Ukraine and its people are subjugated to Moscow’s will by any means necessary.  This is a criminal regime.  The Kremlin has broken nearly every law of war in its assault on Ukraine – targeting civilians, schools, and homes; deploying torture, rape, and summary executions; kidnapping and forcibly repatriating children to Russia; and systematically working to destroy Ukraine’s economy.

“But against this darkness, there is light.  That light is the unflinching valor and steely determination of millions of Ukrainians who are fighting the Kremlin’s senseless aggression.  The West is right to stand with them because no free society anywhere is safe in a world of authoritarian impunity.

“Russia believes it can outlast the world and beat Ukraine into submission.  Vladimir Putin is wrong.  He does not understand that freedom is worth fighting for.  The Ukrainian people will not be bowed; they will not be broken; and they will rebuild a stronger, more prosperous Ukraine after Russia’s defeat.

“The International Republican Institute will continue to proudly stand with Ukraine and its people until their freedom is secure.”
