Washington, DC – The International Republican Institute (IRI) released the following statement in response to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump:
“The International Republican Institute strongly condemns the attack on former President Trump earlier today and prays for his speedy recovery. Political violence is completely unacceptable and historically, is a means to destroy democracy. Elections are a contest of leadership and ideas – and at this pivotal moment in history, Americans deserve no less. Every citizen in a democracy has a responsibility to uphold our ideals of freedom and to condemn those who violate them. Let us move forward and demonstrate to the world that America is a leader of tolerance and political pluralism by carrying out a free and fair election in the pursuit of a more perfect union.”
